Abstract:Abstract: On the issues of environment governance, local government’s behavior is largely affected by the officials. Based on the panel data of 169 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2010, this paper empirically analyzes the impact of official characteristics on urban environment governance performance. The empirical results show that: ①The age of officials has a significant negative impact on the performance of urban environment governance; officials with native background, party school education, and engineer titles are more conducive to urban environment governance; ②The official characteristics have significant different impacts on the subdivision index of environment governance performance; ③The influences of the characteristics of officials on the urban environment governance performance have significant regional heterogeneity. The results of this article are helpful to deeply understand the role of individual officials in environment governance, and can also provide relative suggestions for cadre and personnel reform.
